The facts investigated by the Attorney General’s Office refer to the rape of a minor under 15 years of age belonging to the Nukak Maku indigenous community within a battalion in San José del Guaviare.
The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation has opened a disciplinary investigation against eight members of the National Army for a case of alleged sexual abuse of a minor under 15 years of age in Guavire, who belongs to the Nukak Maku indigenous community.
The acts would have occurred in San José del Guaviare in September 2019, when the soldiers involved were part of the No. 19 Infantry Battalion in the Guavire.
Those investigated by the Public Ministry would be two non-commissioned officers of the Army and six regular soldiers. The events reportedly occurred in the village of Charras in San José del Guaviare and became known through a complaint that had been filed with the authorities about the alleged participation of a North American soldier in the rape of an indigenous minor in 2019.
For this reason, the attorney, Margarita Cabello, ordered the members of the Human Rights Commission to go to the area where the events occurred to gather first-hand information. They have been in that activity since Wednesday of last week.
Similarly, yesterday President Gustavo Petro spoke about it on his Twitter account. “I have asked that a commission from the ICBF and the Presidency immediately go to Guaviare and attend to the complaints of violations of minors. This horror has been fueled by impunity for years. All investigations will be initiated, even for the omission of officials.”
Ombudsman Alert
The Ombudsman’s Office called attention to both national and regional entities of the country, so that they pay attention to the serious human rights situation faced by indigenous communities, especially minors, in Guaviare.
“For the Ombudsman’s Office, it is worrying that despite having alerted about situations that affect the population of the department of Guaviare, particularly the communities of the Jiw and Nükak indigenous peoples, no measures have been adopted to prevent them,” he said. the Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo.
Icbf sends commission
Given the serious complaints of sexual abuse and substance use, among other violations, suffered by boys and girls from the indigenous communities in Guaviare, the Icbf sent a special commission to verify what is happening.
“As rector of the National Family Welfare System, I have called on the entities that comprise it to work in an articulated manner to prevent and protect the rights of children and adolescents in the department. It is reprehensible and painful that this type of situation that affects and threatens the life and integrity of children arises. From the Government, we will spare no effort so that sexual violence does not continue to end the dreams of the most sacred thing we have, our girls and boys, “said the director of the entity, Concepción Baracaldo.
This decision is added to the one taken by the Prosecutor’s Office, who also sent a special commission, and the one taken by the Attorney General’s Office, which opened an investigation against six soldiers.
