Several Twitter app developers are reporting problems logging into the application. The social network’s API appears to be causing problems for popular third-party clients such as Tweetbot, among others.
Several third-party clients write on their social media channels that they are experiencing problems connecting to Twitter. Twitterific reports that the app cannot connect to Twitter and that the reason is unknown. The popular iOS and macOS app Tweetbot writes the samelike Android-app Talon.
The problems arose on Friday morning Dutch time and do not seem to have been resolved at the moment. The problem seems wide-ranging; a developers of Tweetbot say that almost all api requests are not handled. That means users can’t log in, but logged in users also can’t refresh their timeline or perform other actions.
Twitter itself has not yet responded to the outage. The official account already has not tweeted since December 10th, presumably because the company’s entire communications team has been laid off. That is why it is not possible to request a response from Twitter. Elon Musk has been active on his account since the problems arose, but he does not mention the malfunction there.
Elon Musk has laid off a large number of Twitter’s employees in recent months, including technical employees. It is not exactly clear how many people still work at the social network and what proportion of them still work on essential services. In recent weeks, several developers have warned that important parts of Twitter could break, but it’s not clear whether the current problems are a result of the new owner’s reorganization policy.
