A song in which Shakira makes fun of her ex-husband has broken a YouTube record – never before has a Latin song gained so many views in such a short time. The Colombian recorded a song in which she mocks her ex Gerard Piqué and his new girlfriend. “You traded a Ferrari for a twingo,” “I’m worth two 22-year-olds,” he sings.
Colombian star Shakira’s song is the most streamed new Latin song in the history of the YouTube platform. Within 24 hours of its release, the song was streamed 63 million times.
Shakira, 45, and Gerard Piqué, a footballer from Barcelona who played for Manchester United and the Spanish national team in the past, separated in June last year after nearly 12 years of marriage. The reason was the betrayal of the 35-year-old. He left his wife for 23-year-old Clara Chíaa student who works at his production company.
After the divorce, the former spouses fought a battle for custody of their two sons: 9-year-old Milan and 7-year-old Sasha. Eventually, Shakira obtained court approval to move to Miami with the children. The athlete has 10 days a month at his disposal to spend time with his sons.
Shakira apparently did not recover from the breakup. Hurt by her unfaithful husband, she recorded a 4-minute long song in collaboration with Argentinian producer DJ Bizarrap.
“I’m worth as much as two 22-year-olds” – sings the wounded woman in Spanish and adds: “You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo, you traded a Rolex for a Casio“.
She goes on to suggest that her ex should exercise his brain instead of spending a lot of time at the gym.
“You left me with my mother-in-law as a neighbor, the press at my door, and a debt to the IRS” – sings Shakira, referring to accusations of non-payment of income tax in Spain totaling 14.5 million euros.
The prosecution claims that because Shakira and her family lived in Barcelona between 2012 and 2014, she should pay tax to the Spanish tax authorities. She faces up to 8 years in prison and a fine of 23 million euros.
