Tabletop Publisher Pathfinder Announces Its Open Game License in Response to Wizards of the Coast Actions

We were there. Paizo owner Lisa Stevens and Paizo president Jim Butler were former Dungeons & Dragons team leaders. Brian Lewis, co-founder of Paizo’s law firm Azora Law, worked with Wizards of the Coast on the legal basis for the open gaming license.

We at Paizo believe that this license cannot be invalidated. And while we are ready to defend our point of view in court if necessary, we do not want things to come to this, and we know that our partner publishers are not ready for such proceedings.

We’re not interested in a new open D&D license. We have another plan to help keep the spirit of the original open gaming license.
