GGD Fryslân will start vaccinating against the human papillomavirus (HPV) on 30 January. This is done at the five injection locations where the corona vaccinations are also given. This is in Leeuwarden, Heerenveen, Drachten, Sneek and Dokkum.
The HPV vaccine consists of two shots and is intended for everyone born between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 2003. The vaccination protects against the human papillomavirus. This virus is transmitted through intimate contact and can cause cancer of the mouth or pubic area in both men and women. The virus can cause cervical cancer, among other things.
Boys
Girls have been offered a vaccination against HPV since 2010. Since 2022, boys are also invited for the HPV vaccination in the year they turn ten. In addition, in 2022 and 2023, teenagers up to the age of eighteen who have not yet been (fully) vaccinated will have the opportunity to be vaccinated against HPV.
There must be at least five months (preferably six months) between the two vaccinations.
