SCHOONHOVEN – The RIVM invites everyone born between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 2003 for a vaccination against HPV. HPV is highly contagious and can cause cancer in areas such as the oral and larynx, penis, anus, vagina, labia and cervix. A vaccination protects against these six types of cancer. You can also get vaccinated in the Krimpenerwaard from February 6th.
Research shows that young adults know little about the possible consequences of the virus and the vaccination. RIVM therefore launched a national campaign this week. The virus is transmitted through the hands, skin or mouth during sexual contact. The body usually clears the virus itself within two years, but if that does not happen, cancer can develop later in life.
Hecht GGD Hollands Midden will soon open HPV injection locations in Alphen aan den Rijn, Gouda, Katwijk, Leiden, Lisse, Noordwijk, Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, Roelofarendsveen and Schoonhoven. To make an appointment, visit the website of the GGD.
