Erabaru.net. A dog in Louisiana has gone from being an ordinary pet to being hailed as a local hero after protecting two girls who went missing for hours after they got lost in the woods near their home.
The Bourg family’s golden retriever, Artemis, happened to be accompanying Abigail, 7, and her four-year-old sister, Cecilia, when they were reported missing in Folsom on Monday (12/12).
“I had just started running around the entire six-acre property and that’s when I called [suami saya] and said, ‘They left,” the girls’ mother, Mary, told CBS News, recalling the moment when she realized her two daughters had disappeared.
Local authorities and residents conducted a four-hour search for the girls and were finally able to find them after hearing Artemis’ barking.
The mother of two added that the family dog was so protective of the young girls it “didn’t let up.” [polisi] past the girls’, or any other search team member for that matter.
“He circled around them, growling at people to protect them,” Bourg further said.
Before realizing they had gone too far into the forest on their own, Abigail and Cecilia had already ventured more than a mile.
Artemis lay on top of them to protect them once they got tired.
After being reunited with their parents, the two girls said they lost their way after trying to keep up with Artemis, reports CBS News.
“He kept running in front of us. We tried to follow him, but we couldn’t follow him,” said Abigail Bourg.
The young girl’s father, Justin, said the golden retriever was let free after he kept the family together.
“He’s had a free pass for a while,” he added. “I’m not going to fuss over him for chewing blankets and shoes.”
St. Parish Sheriff’s Office Tammany thanked the Louisiana State Police, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and local residents for their assistance in finding the two girls, describing the outcome as a “very happy ending.”
Meanwhile, golden retrievers have been rated as ‘highly instinctive and adaptive’ in any situation, according to Puppy In Training.
This means they are able to read the emotions of people in a room, understand what routines mean, associate certain objects with actions, and learn their training very quickly! (yn)
