Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Social media activists circulated reports and a picture of a check worth 350 million Kuwaiti dinars (about $1.14 billion), which they claimed was in the name of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
A picture of the alleged check circulated shows that it was issued by the Central Bank of Kuwait and that it was withdrawn in 2013.
For its part, the Central Bank of Kuwait issued a statement in which it said: “In light of the false statements being dealt with in one of the external media channels and social networking sites regarding the existence of a check issued and drawn on the Central Bank of Kuwait on 7-26-2013 in the amount of 350 million Kuwaiti dinars, the Bank of The Central Kuwait confirms that the data being circulated in this regard is incorrect.
And he continued: “Since the image of the check shown and the data it contained do not match the checks of the Central Bank of Kuwait, and therefore the Central Bank of Kuwait confirms that the data being circulated is incorrect and calls for accuracy in publishing and circulating information .. This and the Central Bank of Kuwait confirms that publishing or returning Trading such data would expose its owner to legal accountability.
