Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Two informed sources revealed, in statements to CNN, that several people associated with US President Joe Biden have been interviewed as part of the Justice Department’s investigation into the discovery of classified documents, since he was former vice president. The appointment of the special counsel is an important moment for Biden, who has largely managed to stay out of legal trouble during his time in the White House. The Special Counsel investigation, with the new Republican-led House of Representatives in place, means Biden could be on the defensive over the next two years.
Robert Hoare, the former US Attorney General in Maryland, will oversee the Justice Department’s investigation into classified documents found in Biden’s home and former private office, and Hoare has a “long and distinguished career.”
“As US Attorney, who has overseen some of the most important national security and public corruption cases in the Department of Justice and other high-level matters, I will ensure that Hore receives all the resources he needs to do his job,” Garland said.
Hoare was nominated to be Maryland’s attorney general by former US President Donald Trump in 2017 and held the position until his resignation in 2021.
