Microsoft officially turns off Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, it’s time to upgrade

Palembang, Detiksumsel.com – Microsoft officially shut down the computer’s operating system (OS). Windows 7 and also Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023.

The two operating systems no longer receive any updates, including a new security system.

According to Microsoft’s promise on its official website, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will no longer be supported and advise users to switch to the latest OS, namely Windows 10 and 11.

Windows 7 and 8.1 themselves last received an update in January 2020, which was the start date for the shutdown of the two OSes.

But Microsoft extended it for 3 years because the number of users is still relatively large.

Even though it is no longer supported, computer users can still use the old school operating system, but the old OS is prone to cyber attacks and also slowly third party programs will no longer be compatible with the old OS.

Windows 7 was first released in 2009, while Windows 8.1 was launched in 2013 where it became a replacement for Windows 8 which was labeled a failure.

At this time, Windows 7 is still used by 10 percent of computer users worldwide, while Windows 8.1 is even less.

This figure is the motivating factor for Microsoft to kill these two old school operating systems.
