Alcorcón City Council encourages citizens to donate blood to reinforce reserves

The Alcorcón City Council, through the Department of Social Services and Public Health, asks the residents of the city to come to donate blood at the Alcorcón Hospital or the nearest donation point within the Blood Donation Week that is celebrated this week until Saturday, January 14.
This initiative, coordinated by the Transfusion Center and joined by the Department of Health, aims to reinforce the blood reserves that are in deficit. According to the Transfusion Center, blood reserves are currently at 60% of their optimal level, so it is necessary to recover them in order to guarantee the daily blood supply to hospitals. During the month of December the number of donors has decreased substantially.
This decrease placed the reserve levels of all blood groups on red alert, which has made it necessary to resort to safety reserves in order to cover the hospital and surgical needs and those of patients who receive daily transfusions. The objective set on this occasion is to reach 8,400 donations among all the points to prevent a critical situation and to be able to cover with some peace of mind all the demand made by the hospitals of the Community of Madrid. For all these reasons, the City Council joins this campaign of the Ministry of Health and encourages citizens to come and donate blood.
