The new departmental youth council of Eure-et-Loir has elected its president and two vice-presidents

Weather conditions did not allow them to meet on 14 December, the day scheduled for the inauguration of the new Departmental Youth Council (CDJ). The sixty elected officials finally took their seats, Wednesday 11 January in the morning, in the hemicycle of Place Châtelet, in Chartres, to sit in the plenary assembly, under the benevolent gaze of Anne Bracco, vice-president of the departmental council in charge of education and higher education.

Who makes up the Departmental Youth Council?

There are sixty in total: thirty-four girls and twenty-six boys, elected for two years and trained in twenty-nine colleges of the department, six of which are private.

Thirty-five elected members sit for first-year terms; twenty-five already have one year in office. Four elected are in 6a, thirteen in 5a, twenty-five in 4a and eighteen in 3a. A relay adult in each college (senior education adviser, principal, vice principal, teacher, etc.) accompanies them on their mission.

What is its role?

The departmental youth council was created in 1999. Its members (two per college) meet once a month on Wednesdays in plenary assembly. If they fail to make a decision, they present proposals which are put to a vote and communicated to the Eure-et-Loir departmental council.

This year the young people elected will work on three themes of coexistence: helping, helping and helping each other; get to know or find out more about your department; develop critical thinking.

What actions have already been taken?

During the 2021-2022 school year, young departmental advisers took part in college debates and citizens’ meetings on sustainable development, organized on the Chartres campus. They also made a video in the style of an election campaign clip to promote their ideas.

For their first session, on Wednesday 11 January, the young elected officials were invited to express their opinion on the future Eure-et-Loir 2040 questionnaire, which will be distributed to all university students (how they will see their life in the department and what can offer).

Who are the new president and vice presidents of the CDJ?

Elected president with eighteen votes, Arthur, 14, lives in Sainville and studies in the third grade at Saint-Joseph d’Auneau college. Clémence, 14, in the third grade at the Herriot de Lucé school and who lives in Saint-Georges-sur-Eure, is its first vice-president. Assia, 12, in fourth grade at Camus college in Dreux and who lives in Vernouillet, is the second vice president.

The three elected officials have already served on the departmental youth council last year. «It was a good group experience, which united us», they confide.
