NASA announces the discovery of a habitable planet the size of Earth

The US space agency ‘NASA’ has announced the discovery of an Earth-sized habitable exoplanet orbiting a star about 100 million light-years from Earth.

NASA said in a statement Wednesday that the Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has discovered an Earth-sized planet located in the “habitable zone” in the constellation Delphinus (Dorado).

According to the statement, this exoplanet, dubbed “TOI 700 e,” is at a distance from its orbiting star, which allows for the presence of water on the planet’s surface.

A sayingA NASA researcher, EMillie Gilbert, in the statement: “This is one of the few systems we know of that have multiple, small, habitable planets.”

Gilbert said this discovery is an exciting step forward for following the TOI 700 system closely.

He added that the newly discovered planet ‘TOI 700 e’ is about 10% smaller than the previous discovery, ‘TOI 700 d’.

He noted that the TESS mission’s observations are also helping to find ever-smaller worlds.

Astronomers had previously discovered three planets called “TOI 700 b, c and d” in the system called “TOI 700”.
