Novak Djokovic sees the door open to once again extend one of the records he already has in his possession and which seems, at least for the moment, an impossible mission for anyone trying to dethrone him. The Serbian tennis player has the possibility of leaving Melbourne Park as the new world number one and with this being able to continue to extend his record of several weeks as leader of the ATP rankings.
‘Nole’ currently has a total of 373 weeks in the honor position, 63 more than her main escort. The difference is overwhelming compared to the rest, and it could be more so in a season where he will defend few points in a year where I aim to be number one again in the world.
His escort in this ranking could only be the Swiss Roger Federer. The “express” had been the only player who had broken the barrier of 300 weeks at the top of the ATP rankings.
The third and last place on the podium is occupied by the American Pete Sampras, who retired with 286 weeks as number 1. Further back come two other former tennis players such as the Americans Ivak Lendl (270) and Jimmy Connors (268).
The other Big-3 member, Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who has 209 weeks in the prime spot, appears only as far as sixth in the standings. This is one of the great records that Novak Djokovic has in his possession and that, if all goes as logic indicates, he will be able to continue extending it and the 400m is just around the corner.
How long do you think it will take for ‘Nole’e to regain his spot as number one in the world?
