Oil trade restrictions are hitting Russia’s finances, but the fight is not over yet

European Union (EU) restrictions applied of Russia for crude oil imports and the oil price cap significantly reduced government revenues, negatively affecting the state budget.

Further restrictions will come into force on Feb. 5, but Russian officials have indicated they may retaliate and there is a possibility that Russia will decide to arbitrarily cut exports to boost oil prices.
