Among mice and mould, without hot water or heating, Driss, his wife and their five children are going through a real ordeal in Colomiers.

Hosted by 2018 alley from Cerdagne to Colomiers by Alteal, Driss, his partner and their five children have today reached a point of no return. “We can’t take it anymore, it’s not normal to live in these conditions,” says Driss Berrada.

The ground floor apartment is spacious. The living room is transformed into a dormitory and a pantry. In one corner, an electric radiator somehow spreads some heat. Wrapped in a thick coat, Driss walks around the owner.

Rats, humidity and mold

The kitchen is plunged into darkness, a smell of humidity fills the room. The ceiling is covered in a thick black layer of mould. “Let’s close the window and the shutters. There is no CMV in the kitchen, you can’t even ventilate anymore because of the mice. They cross the balcony and sneak into the apartment. We moved all the food into the living room and blocked off the kitchen. »

Outside, a fairly large cavity leads under the apartment. Rodent traps testify to the presence of parasites.

“People from the town hall and from Alteal came several times to see the place. They sent technicians who told me the boiler had a problem, that it was too old. There had to be a carbon monoxide leak and firefighters to change it. With the faulty boiler we ended up with a bill of over 7,000 euros, which I can’t pay. »

“Since March we have had neither heating nor hot water, we have to take a shower with the neighbors or at the municipal swimming pool. The VMC is not working. Every three months they come to repaint the moldy walls… They hide the misery. »

A former lorry driver, Driss can no longer practice his profession due to a tragic accident, which makes his situation increasingly precarious. Followed by a social worker, family is now a priority in HLM research.

For his part, the Columérin landlord, Alteal, indicates that he is examining the dossier of this family. A new appointment at home was scheduled for Tuesday 10 January to see the problems and seek a solution.
