Pregnant women will be given an antiviral for hepatitis B, note the schedule and location

JawaPos.com – The government will pilot the administration of antivirals to pregnant women. This is to prevent transmission of the hepatitis B virus from mother to child.

In an official statement on Wednesday (11/1), Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that more efforts are needed to prevent transmission of the hepatitis B virus from mother to child in addition to efforts to immunize hepatitis B administered to newborns. One such further effort is through the use of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate antivirus which has proven its safety and efficacy.

To use the antiviral Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate in pregnant women with hepatitis B, pilot activities were conducted at hospitals and health centers in different provinces and districts or cities as a first step. Minister of Health Budi issued Order of Minister of Health number HK.01.07/MENKES/15/2023 regarding pilot administration of antivirus to pregnant women to prevent mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B virus.

Dosage and schedule
Pilot administration of antivirals to pregnant women is accomplished by administering the antiviral drug Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate to HBsAg positive pregnant women, with viral levels equal to or greater than 200,000 IU/ml (5.3 log10 IU/ml), or with hepatitis B e -Antigen (HBeAg) positive during the third trimester of pregnancy up to 1 (one) month after delivery.

The administration of the antiviral drug Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate to HBsAg positive pregnant women is carried out by general practitioners trained in first-level health facilities or by internal medicine specialists in advanced reference health facilities.

Activities carried out by working groups determined by the management in health facilities. From 2022 to 2023, pilot projects of administering antivirals to pregnant women will be conducted in hospitals and health centers in 6 provinces and 10 districts or cities.

Below is a list of places to provide antiviral healthcare facilities to pregnant women

1. West Java: Bandung City Hospital and Bandung City Arcamanik Health Center;
2. DKI Jakarta: Cengkareng Health Center and Taman Sari Hospital, West Jakarta; Tanah Abang Health Center and Kemayoran Hospital, Central Jakarta; Kebayoran Lama Health Center and Tebet Hospital, South Jakarta; Cakung Health Center and Kramat Jati Hospital, East Jakarta; Tanjung Priok Health Center and North Jakarta Koja Hospital;
3. South Sulawesi: Sudiang Raya Community Health Center and Laburan Baji Hospital, Makassar city;
4. East Java: Sememi Health Center, Wonokusumo Health Center, dr. Mohamad Soewandhie, Dr. Soetomo City of Surabaya;
5. Lampung : Hj. Abdul Moeloek, the Way Kandis Health Center and the Gedong Air Health Center in Bandar City;
6. South Kalimantan: Pekauman Public Health Center, Banjarmasin City.
