Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
PSI Board of Trustees Vice President Grace Natalie apologizes to PDI Perjuangan General President Megawati Sukarnoputri for carrying the cadre of PDIP Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate (capres) from the PSI in Presidential elections 2024.
Grace made this statement in response to political speeches by Megawati who implied that other parties who had supported their cadres were becoming presidential candidates.
“We understand that what Ms Megawati Soekarnoputri said in her speech at the PDIP 50th anniversary event was addressed to the PSI. For this reason, on this occasion, with all humility, the PSI apologizes to Ms Mega “, Grace said in her statement.
The PSI has expressed its support for the nomination of Ganjar as a presidential candidate for 2024 through the popular consultation mechanism. Grace admits that the PSI is still a young party and still has a lot to learn. So he was unable to birth a presidential candidate himself.
He felt that Ganjar’s support was not to recruit PDIP cadres. Rather, it is an acknowledgment that PDIP is capable of producing great leaders.
“Support for Mas Ganjar does not mean we are hiring PDIP cadres. Rather, this is an acknowledgment on our part that our elders have produced great leaders,” Grace said.
He believed that his party was merely broadcasting the aspirations of the people and PSI supporters to support Ganjar. Additionally, the PDIP has produced many great leaders and statesmen.
“PSI is a young party, we are still new and naive. We don’t understand the recruitment mechanism in the PDIP. The PDIP under Ms. Mega’s leadership has produced many great leaders and statesmen. Pak Jokowi is a real example,” he said .
During the climax of the PDIP 50th anniversary commemoration yesterday, Megawati had implied that other parties had backed their cadres to become presidential candidates.
Megawati was surprised that the party declared a PDIP cadre as its presidential candidate. He asked why the party didn’t have its own cadres.
“Why dompleng-dompleng? The rules as is??” Megawati said.
