Panama, January 10. Panama health authorities reported on Tuesday that the Central American country accumulates 8,584 deaths and 1,027,247 cases of covid-19, adding 10 deaths and 1,403 infections in the first week of the year.
As of last Saturday, January 7, there were 3 patients in intensive care (ICU) and 99 in the ward, while 1,984 were in home isolation and 1,016,577 recovered, according to official data.
The report from Panama’s Ministry of Health said that 17,839 tests were carried out to detect the disease during the week of January 1 to 7, resulting in a positivity of 7.9%.
As for the vaccines against covid-19, 8,703,178 doses were applied, which corresponds to the sum of the first, second, third and fourth throughout the country, including immunosuppressed patients, according to data from the Expanded Immunization Program ( PAI).
494,281 doses of pediatric vaccines were injected – by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer alone – of which 482,697 correspond to infants aged 5 to 11 years and 11,584 from 6 months to 4 years.
75,600 doses of Pfizer’s bivalent vaccine are expected to arrive this Tuesday, according to local media, after the country’s authorities authorized its use for both adults and children. EFE extension
