Kim Seong-tae, former chairman of the Ssangbangul group, arrested in Thailand

While under investigation for various allegations of corruption by the Ssangbangwool group, former president Kim Seong-tae, who fled abroad, was captured in Thailand.

In addition, Yang Seon-gil, the current chairman of Ssangbang-ul, was arrested along with former chairman Kim.

According to the indictment, former President Kim and President Yang were captured by local police at a golf course in Thailand at around 7.30pm today.

Former President Kim left for Singapore in late May last year ahead of the prosecution’s kidnap and search, then moved to Thailand and was on the run for nearly eight months.

Prosecutors have focused on protecting new recruits, such as taking Interpol red notices and invalidating passports for the two presidents, while freezing shares worth tens of billions of won owned by former President Kim with names borrowed from the ‘be arbitrarily assigned.

Former President Kim and others face the process of being deported from Thailand due to invalidated passports, but if they file a lawsuit denying deportation to the country, they are expected to take some time to enter the country.

Previously arrested in Thailand in early December last year, Mr. Kim, the former chairman of Ssangbangwool Group, known as the “safe keeper”, also filed a lawsuit to deny extradition to the Thai court soon after his arrest. and the lawsuit is currently pending.

Prosecutors are planning to immediately consult with Thai authorities to repatriate former President Kim and others to Korea as soon as possible.
