Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Satanic Temple Group announced on Monday (9/1/2023) that it will hold the SatanCon 2023 event at the end of April 2023 in Boston, United States of America (USA).
Dubbed the largest gathering of Satan in history, this year’s convention will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the “Temple.”
“Those arriving at Boston’s Hexennacht on April 28 are expected to wear N-95, KN-95 or disposable surgical masks,” according to the group’s website. Russia TodayTuesday (10/1/2023).
After holding its first SatanCon last year in Arizona, the Satanic Temple Group has moved the event closer to its international headquarters in Salem, also known for its famous late 1600s witch trials. approximately 2,500 members in the Boston area.
The group insists it does not really believe in devils and its official mission is to “encourage benevolence and empathy among all people, reject tyrannical authority, advocate common sense and practical justice, and be directed by human conscience to do noble works”.
They also declared abortion a fundamental religious right and argued that any state law restricting the practice unfairly discriminates against their members.
After falling into the national spotlight for its advocacy in 2020, the Church of Satan instead denounced the Satanic Temple Group as “a group of political activists using shameful language to get the attention of the press.”
The Satanic Temple Group later made a comeback for filing lawsuits against local and state authorities, alleging religious freedom violations when their requests to perform satanic prayers or display satanic images on public property were denied.
In July 2021, the group petitioned Boston to raise the flag outside City Hall for “Devil Appreciation Week”, but it was denied. The city then changed its flag policy in October of that year.
Boston and the Colony of Massachusetts were originally founded by the Puritans, a strict Protestant sect who believed that the Church of England was too similar to the Roman Catholic Church from which it had seceded.
