Striker Indonesian national team Ilija Spasojevic sent a message after Garuda’s side failed to advance to the final AFF Cup 2022.
Spasojevic, who came on in the last minutes of the semi-final second leg at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi on Monday (9/1), couldn’t do much.
The Montenegrin-born player failed to change position as Indonesia trailed 0-2 and failed to make it to the AFF Cup final for the seventh time.
“To the Indonesian fans, thank you for the endless support from all of you. We are sorry that we have not been able to give the best results.”
“Hopefully we can give up the title next time,” Spasojevic wrote in an Instagram upload as he showed a photo of himself stomping the pitch at My Dinh Stadium in a black Indonesian national team jersey.
Spasojevic scored a goal during his participation in the 2022 AFF Cup. The Bali United player also cheered at the Indonesia national team’s goal celebration against Brunei Darussalam in the group stage.
The 35-year-old forward was one of the forwards brought in by Shin Tae Yong along with Dendy Sulistyawan, M Rafli and Ramadhan Sananta.
Of the four players who acted as spearheads, Shin trusted Dendy most often as a starter.
Apart from Rafli, all forwards brought in by Shin were able to score goals in the AFF Cup. Sananta and Spasojevic both scored once, while Dendy scored twice.
