The Tesla showroom was flooded with consumers in China. They protested the sudden discount policy given by the Elon Musk-owned electric car maker.
quoted CnnAbout 200 people came to storm the Tesla showroom in Shanghai on Tuesday (10/1/2023). Tesla Model 3 and Model Y buyers have protested that Tesla has offered them a sudden price cut. Consumers who have already bought feel at a loss because they paid more for their previously purchased electric car.
In the past three months, Tesla has cut prices twice. They are respectively 13% and 24% cheaper than September prices.
In a Reuters report, speculation was that the price cuts were in an attempt to stimulate sales and prop up Tesla’s production in Shanghai. On the other hand, the end of government subsidies scheduled for the end of 2022 is also pushing many people to complete the purchase of electric cars.
Videos posted on social media showed crowds at Tesla showrooms and delivery centers in other Chinese cities from Chengdu to Shenzhen. A consumer did not accept the discount policy, he protested at the company’s delivery center on the outskirts of Minhang Shanghai, China.

“This might be normal business practice, but it’s not the way of a responsible company,” said a Tesla owner who gave his first name as Zhang.
Zhang said police facilitated a meeting between Tesla staff and the owner who convened where the owner presented a list of demands, including an apology and other compensation or credits.
Another video, which is verified Reuters filmed in a Tesla store in the southwestern city of Chengdu, it shows a crowd chanting “Give us our money, give us our car back.”
Another footage, apparently shot in Beijing, shows police cars arriving to disperse crowds outside the Tesla store.
“Tesla has no plans to compensate buyers who took delivery ahead of the latest price cuts,” a Tesla China spokesman told Reuters on Saturday.
