The prosecution asked the court to sentence Mr. to death. Chun during the trial held on the 10th at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Settlement Division 25-1 hearing (Judge Park Jeong-gil). A 30-year foreclosure order was also requested for the tracking electronics.

The reason was that Jeon planned the crime carefully, checking the victim’s working hours before committing it and installing a location information system (GPS) manipulation application that made it appear as if he was in a different place. “The defendant was calm and emotionally disturbed enough to read a webtoon to calm boredom before killing the victim in a public place. The same was true when committing a crime. The victim was repeatedly stabbed to the same depth,” he explained.

Kim Tae-gyeong, a professor of psychological counseling at Woosuk University, who appeared in court that day as an expert witness, also testified: knife’” and “showed an attitude of no empathy with the pain or emotions of others”. Furthermore, he said that “the risk of recidivism is not small,” stating that when Mr. Jeon encounters a situation that goes against his best interests, he appears to be able to violate the other person’s rights.

Even in his final statement, Mr. Jeon showed a calm countenance. After sighing once, he said: “I apologize to the victims and their grieving families. I repent and reflect on all my actions. I will live with a heart of atonement not forgetting my mistakes for the rest of my life. Mr. Jeon’s lawyer said, “Please take a look at whether a long-term prison sentence can be expected to prevent reoffending.”

The sentencing hearing will be held on the 7th of next month.

In September last year, Jeon stabbed and killed a fellow employee of Seoul Transportation Corporation who had been stalking him for two years in the women’s restroom at Sindang Station on Subway Line 2. While on trial after being charged with stalking and illegal filming, he killed the victim a day before sentencing, when he was expected to receive a heavy sentence. In the first stalking trial, Jeon was sentenced to 9 years in prison, but both Jeon and the prosecution appealed, so the second trial is ongoing.
