The Californian company Virgin Orbit reported an error when launching a LauncherOne rocket from a carrier aircraft. The launch was carried out for the first time from the territory of Great Britain.

“Virgin Orbit reported a launch anomaly. This prevented the rocket from reaching orbit,” he writes Reuters.

The rocket was supposed to launch nine satellites into orbit, including those belonging to the British Ministry of Defense and the US National Space Intelligence Agency. The launch of the Boeing 747 aircraft with a rocket, mounted under its wing, took place from Newquay Cornwall airport. When the aircraft reached the desired altitude, the engine fired on the rocket, but after first stage separation it failed to enter regular orbit.

In July 2022 reportedthat NASA and Roscosmos have signed an agreement on joint cross-flights. The countries intend to cooperate within the framework of the ISS program, as well as for the effective implementation of space exploration projects.
