All pets left at the residence of Lee Ki-young (31), who is being investigated by the prosecution after he was arrested for the murder of a taxi driver and his wife, have all been adopted.
According to Paju City, Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Animal Rescue Management Association, on the 10th, all three cats and one dog that had been neglected at Lee’s residence in Paju city underwent adoption procedures and are ended up in the arms of a new family.
These pets were registered with the Korea Animal Rescue Management Association and were being protected.
Usually, if there are no adoption requests for about 20 days, they are suppressed.
These animals were no exception, but citizens who came across this story through media reports have been known to inquire about adoption.
Previously, Lee Ki-young lived with the victim he killed and raised pets.
Later, when the taxi driver’s murder was discovered and arrested by the police, only pets were left in an empty house.
Subsequently, the management office, which received reports from residents that they heard dogs barking, notified the city of Paju.
Then, the Korea Animal Rescue Management Association, a shelter for abandoned animals in Paju, rescued them and started protecting them.
On this day, animal welfare group ‘Kara’ released a comment titled ‘Protection measures for victims left at the crime scene must be prepared as soon as possible’, saying, ‘It is not enough that animals ( in Lee Gi-young’s account residence) lost their guardians, was placed on the euthanasia list and nearly lost his life.
“The number of cases of endangered animals left at crime scenes is on the rise,” he said. “It is a domestic reality that animals who cannot directly explain the abuse they have experienced are ignored without legal protection as abused animals even if they are discovered at the crime scene,” she stressed.
On the other hand, on August 7-8 last year, Mr. Lee killed a victim in his 50s who owned the house and lived with him at his home in Paju, and then dumped the body in Gongneungcheonbyeon.
In addition, on December 20 of last year, he was arrested on suspicion of taking a taxi driver in his 60s who had an accident while driving drunk to his house for a deal, killing him and hiding the body in a closet.
