Host Arjen Lubach was voted Media Person of the Year. In the Sound & Vision museum he received the award from last year’s winner, André van Duin.
The award is presented annually by Broadcast Magazine. This year, for the first time, at Van Duin’s insistence, no distinction was made between Broadcasting Woman and Man of the Year. The comedian called it crazy last year that this distinction was still present in times of inclusion, after which the award was made gender-neutral.
A highly cited contender for this year’s award was Tim Hofman for his broadcasting of the program Whistles on cross-border behaviour The voice of Holland, early last year. In his acceptance speech, Lubach joked that he was glad the organization decided that Hofman already had enough awards.
After the success of Sunday with Lubach the presenter started the daily satirical program last February The evening show, which was also a success. The two seasons made to date have typically attracted over one million viewers per broadcast. The third season will start on January 23rd.
“Crazy Title”
Lubach thanked his team after receiving the award. “It’s a crazy title. Everyone knows that without my program I would never have won this award and that without my team I could never have done my program.” He called it an honor to receive the award from André van Duin.
Last month, Lubach was also ranked first in Media100, the annual list of the 100 most influential people in the Dutch media.
