Cities support MY TURN − Women with migration experience take off: German City Day

As a new federal program ESF Plus, MY TURN intends to accompany women with migration experience on their path towards qualification, training and employment subject to social security contributions. The program is aimed at newly immigrant women who are (formally) low-skilled and in greater need of support. The program can prevent you from becoming dependent on long-term support services, because the first years after arriving in Germany are particularly crucial for further employment and success on the job market.

Throughout Germany, more than 140 organizations are funded by MY TURN in almost 70 individual or joint projects. The projects aim to offer women with migration experience a women-specific and life situation-oriented approach, counseling (referral) and continuous, trusting and individual support. In practice, this means actively visiting participants digitally and analogically and being initially accompanied individually by experienced specialists as they enter the labor market in the first funding round until the end of 2025. Among other things, empowerment, counseling on family-work compatibility and childcare as well as acquiring internships and jobs.

Particular attention should be paid to the qualification of the participants. Therefore, a close link between the program and the regulatory instruments of the employment agencies and employment centers is sought. In addition, in more than 20 model locations, mothers with migration experience are to be supported in finding and using regular childcare with a “Childcare Pilot Office”.

In a joint cooperation agreement, the BMAS, the Federal Employment Agency, the German District Association and the German Association of Towns have pledged to work for more women with migration experience than before

  • successfully participate in qualification measures (diploma-oriented) or complete training (part-time),
  • take advantage of childcare services for their children e
  • take up employment mainly subject to social security contributions or take up self-employment to secure a livelihood.

Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Hubertus Heil:

“We need every help and every smart head so that the shortage of skilled workers does not become a brake on prosperity. Migration-experienced women offer potential that we must exploit. With the MY TURN program, we are breaking new and pragmatic paths here , relying on qualifications and permanent support “The ultimate goal is to integrate women with migration experience into the labor market in the long term. Everyone benefits: women, their families and our society as a whole.”

Director Regions of the Federal Employment Agency, Daniel Terzenbach:

“The reasons and causes why many women with migration experience have not yet been able to gain a foothold in the German labor market are as varied as their personal migration histories. With the new ESF Plus support programme, we therefore want to encourage migrant women Childcare, qualifications and of course advice on accessing the labor market are key elements Every successful integration is a great personal success for migrant women and at the same time a contribution to securing jobs labor and skilled workers. Because skilled workers are becoming scarce in more and more professions.”

German District Association and Association of German Towns: President District Administrator Reinhard Sager and President Mayor Markus Lewe:

“We are happy to be a cooperation partner of the federal program. Districts and cities are committed to increasing the number of women with migration experience in the labor market. We are aware that this is a long process in which many obstacles have to be overcome overcome, because there are many women with migrant backgrounds who need support more tailored to their individual circumstances.”

The sponsors are currently starting their work and will be funded as part of MY TURN’s first round of funding through the end of 2025. There is also a network office which supports and networks all MY TURN projects nationwide.
