Arrested with 65 thousand euros in small denominations, a man under investigation for money laundering

A man is to be tried in a hearing this Monday in Angers (Maine-et-Loire). He was arrested this Thursday at the Corzé toll booth in possession of a large sum of small denominations, he reports Western France.

While searching the vehicle, customs officers got their hands on €65,000 in banknotes. The motorist was placed in customs detention before being entrusted to the investigators of the territorial directorate of the judicial police. The suspect first assured that this money was intended for the purchase of a restaurant in Angers.

Suspicions of money laundering

On his cell phone, the investigators found elements in support of a completely different thesis. Photos of drug packages and exchanges involving the hand delivery of this money were discovered.

Referred to the Angers public prosecutor’s office this Saturday and placed in pre-trial detention, the man is now being tried for money laundering. The defendant, who denies everything en bloc, could ask for a deadline on Monday to prepare his defense.
