The representatives of the 48 member states of the OIV, meeting on Monday 25 October 2022, in the Salle des Etats of the Palace of the Dukes of Dijon, unanimously approved (it was necessary) the choice of the city of the Dukes to transfer to this hotel Bouchu d’ Exterior, rue Monge, its world headquarters.
Hotel Bouchu d’Esterno, new headquarters of the OIV in Dijon
This organization, qualified as the UN of wine, leaves Paris to establish its new headquarters in Dijon in 2024, just a century after its creation. This choice, approved unanimously by the 48 member states of the International Wine Organization (OIV)*, confirms the predominant role of the Burgundian capital as an international center of gastronomy and wine. The OIV will then establish itself in the Bouchu d’Esterno hotel, rue Monge, for a minimum period of 50 years. The new headquarters of the organization should be ready in spring 2024. In addition to the Hôtel d’Esterno, the OIV will also be able to occupy the garden, currently a public square, located at the rear of the building. Not only that: the so-called meeting room of the Hôtel de Grandmont (built around 1670) is also “permanently available” to the organization for its meetings and conferences.
*The OIV brings together 48 States which represent 85% of wine production and almost 80% of its world consumption. It was created in 1924 to harmonize winemaking practices and standards and assist countries with wine regulations.
When Dijon becomes the International City of Gastronomy and Wine
Becoming the world headquarters of the OIV (International Wine Organization) is not all! A few hundred meters away, on the exceptional site of the former general hospital, at the gates of the historic center and the Route des Grands Crus*, the International City of Gastronomy and Wine of Dijon was inaugurated in 2022, the only of gastronomy present in France. It brings together a cultural center, the Ferrandi Paris school, the wine school of the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne, cooking events, all grocery stores and cinemas. There are several exhibitions, a gastronomic village, wine tastings, workshops, restaurants, a cinema, a hotel… Something to suit all tastes as long as they are largely Burgundian!
*At the gates of Dijon, the small town of Marsannay-la-Côte opens the Grands Crus route at the northern end, through the Côte de Nuits, towards Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits – Saint-Georges, then Beaune, City of Burgundy climates and wines (with Chablis and Mâcon) and all the prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune.
