A press release revealed today, Monday, that Real Madrid were the subject of a refereeing injustice against Villarreal during the match that brought together the two teams, in the sixteenth round of the Spanish league this season, when the referee awarded a penalty kick against Real Madrid after the ball touched the hand of Austrian defender David Alaba.
Spain’s Sherringito program indicated that the Spanish Football Federation’s refereeing committee felt that the hand ball against Alaba should not be considered a penalty kick in favor of Villarreal, and the program indicated that the matter should be carefully reviewed.
Villarreal earned a two-goal-to-one victory over Real Madrid last Saturday night in the sixteenth round of La Liga competitions as Villarreal raised their tally to 27 points in sixth place, while Real Madrid’s balance frozen at the 38 point in second behind runners-up Barcelona.
