In recent months, hotel rates have skyrocketed as a result of the recovery in demand and the historic rise in prices, the highest in 37 years. Second Statistics of the situation of hotel tourismreleased on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), hotel occupancy levels are already virtually the same as pre-pandemic levels, having occupied 62.9% of the hotel beds in Junethe highest monthly figure since August 2019 and similar to the June figure of that last pre-pandemic year (65.8%).

For its part, inflation grew by 10.2% in June compared to the same month in 2021, even if that specifically referring to hotels and restaurants had a slightly lower than average change, 7.2% year over year. In this context, it is surprising that 21 of the 100 tourist points studied by the INE register a drop in hotel rates per room. Six are concentrated in one of the Balearic or Canary Islands, three in the province of Cádiz, three in Aragon and the rest are distributed between the provinces of Alicante, Guadalajara, Jaén, León, Lleida, Asturias, Pontevedra, Tarragona and Valencia. . Some of those who lower the priceshow Calvià (Mallorca), Benidorm (Alicante), Adeje (Tenerife) and Salou (Tarragon)are also among the 10 tourist resorts with the highest number of overnight stays in the month of June according to the INE, which indicates that they are still very fashionable.

Something that coincides with the tourist areas marked as most expensive by the INE (groups comprising several municipalities): Barcelona; Gipuzkoa coast; Islands of Ibiza and Formentera and Costa del Sol of Malaga. The cheapest provinces were Albacete (48.4 euros), Palencia (52.8 euros) and Ciudad Real (53.4 euros).

It should be noted that the average daily rate issued by INE is the average daily income obtained per occupied room taking into account various types of customers: traditional tour operators, traditional travel agencies, companies, individuals, groups, direct negotiation on the hotel website, online tour operator, online travel agency. Revenues refer to those received by hotels for the supply of the accommodation service, without including other types of services such as catering, spa, gym or organization of events.
