October 2023. It is the date that the mayor of Logroo, Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, anticipated this Friday as the one scheduled for the opening of the new urban bus station, “if no accidents occur”, in reference to the pending administrative procedures for this.
Thus expressed the mayor during the visit he made this morning to the underground works of the Cascajos electrical substation, which, as he specified, “are proceeding at a good pace”, for which he also set a deadline for its completion.Completion : As planned, early 2024.
As Hermoso de Mendoza explained, “the opening of the new bus station will take place, if there are no accidents, in October 2023, there is a negotiation with the company, because the possibility that the transport ‘roll’ will choose” .
This, he added, “leads us to talk about the next two months, because the uncertainties are great about fuels, about raw materials, what is the cost of transport, all of this must be negotiated and, from there, the entire administrative process takes us six months to make the tender open and public, so that the opening, hopefully, will be in October 2023”.
In this sense, the mayor referred to the extraordinary plenary meeting on the bus station, requested by the Gruppo Comunale Popolare, which will take place next Monday, 5 December.
“In Monday’s plenary session – he specified – we will explain all the topics on which we have made progress in terms of safety, accessibility and management model, and also in the environment that will allow us to open up”.
As the city councilor justified, “things must be done well, haste and electoral urgency are never good, for this reason, when we are accused of looking for an electoral calendar, it must be said that we have never been in that logic , but in doing them well and finishing them well, so, if all goes as we hope, in October 2023 the station will be open”.

Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza also referred to the Vara de Rey Knot and the pending modified work. Some works in which, as he recalled, “the opening of the north-south road remains, and we are waiting for the ADIF to see when we can demolish the railway box and complete the work”.
These works impose “a change in the security protocol that will force us to make a change” to what was initially foreseen in the project.
“But, despite everything, I have always said the same thing: working without the tunnel is much cheaper and more efficient than with it, because maintaining it implies maintaining all the anti-flooding systems or electrical systems and this is much more complex ”, he said .
For this, concluded the mayor of Logroo, “despite the cost increase, the overall cost will be much lower and the maintenance will also be much lower, which is another thing equally pursued, sustainability”.
