CANBERRA, January 8 / WAM / Record flooding in Australia’s northwest has isolated several cities as bad weather conditions that started days ago continue, according to the Australian Meteorological Service.
Meteorologists said rainfall eased as former hurricane ‘Eli’ turned eastward across the Northern Territory, but at the same time warned of the continuation of record-breaking major flooding in Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
In the same context, the authorities said the floods are the worst in the history of the state, while on Saturday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called it devastating and pledged to provide federal assistance.
Authorities said Australian Defense Force planes were being used to help flood-hit towns.
The town of Fitzroy Crossing, with a population of about 1,300, was among the hardest hit, with supplies being transported due to flooded roads.
