Next January 21 will be the 100th anniversary of the birth of Lola Flores, who died in 1995 due to cancer. The artist who neither danced nor sang, but could not miss, will be awarded by the City Council of his native Jerez.

The town hall will launch a series of activities under the slogan “Jerez, 100%; Lola, 100% Flores” and next spring will launch a museum about his figure that will have pieces donated by his family. Among these stands out the bata de cola that she wore in the film ‘Sevillanas’ by Carlos Saura and which will be given to her by her daughter Lolita.

With the museum project, the Diputación de Cádiz recognizes, “Jerez can obtain an additional incentive incorporated in its candidacy for European Capital of Culture for the year 2031”.

The mayor of Jerez, Mamen Sánchez, assures that she has contacted her daughters Lolita and Rosario and foresees that the museum will have a great attraction: “Book several dates because it is very difficult to book both with all the professional commitments they have”. .

On January 21, the town hall will also carry out various activities so that its fans “get into the skin of what Lola was and we start making noise about the fact that this year she will finally have her own museum,” says the mayor.

Cycle on the Somos film channel

Somos, the television channel specializing in Spanish cinema and produced by AMC Networks International Southern Europe for various payment platforms, pays homage to the emblematic artist with the screening of some of her most famous films: “Ay, pena, penita, pena!” (1953), ‘The gypsy nun’ (1954), ‘Embrujo’ (1947), ‘La faraona’ (1955) or ‘Échame la culpa’ (1958).

The chain recalls that a century ago in Jerez de la Frontera a great woman was born with the bata de cola, the fan and the comb… none other than the immortal Lola Flores, an overwhelming figure who forged a unique character, and who was so acclaimed she is currently considered the muse of empowerment and, unintentionally, becomes a diva and a point of reference for the LGTBI collective. A strong woman who knew how to invent and build her own legend.
