Apple cancels development of the fourth generation iPhone SE

The fourth generation iPhone SE is expected to be Apple’s internal 5G modem

REPUBLIC.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Apple has reportedly canceled development iPhone SE new. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company recently notified suppliers that it will not be releasing a fourth-generation SE model in 2024.

Reported by EngadgetSunday (8/1/2023), in a post medium which is seen from MacRumorsKuo said the device was meant to be a modem debut 5G Apple’s first extension. The analyst also added that the company had planned to test and fine-tune the chip on the SE before rolling it out more broadly in the iPhone 16 and beyond.

Kuo suggested instead Apple now it is more likely to continue using the modem Qualcomm until 2024. Kuo didn’t say why Apple excluded it iPhone SE fourth generation or whether the performance of Apple’s 5G chip has anything to do with the decision.

For more than a decade, Apple has been trying to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm. In 2019, the two ended their patent battle and signed a “many-year” wireless chip supply deal, but months later Apple bought part of Intel’s mobile modem business.

Then, in late 2020, the company revealed that it was working on its own mobile chipset. Since then there has been little news of the project working on its own mobile chipset.

Previously, Apple Inc. had obtained a patent for its latest generation of Apple Pencil. The latest Apple Pencil is reportedly equipped with a sensor to recognize color and texture.

In the patent file filed in the United States Patent and Trademark Office number 20220413636 A1, launching Phone Arena, Mon (2/1/2023), Apple incorporates an optical sensor and a light emitter on the tip (nib) of the pencil . The optical sensor on the Apple Pencil works to recognize colors and textures on an object’s surface, while the light emitter reads the color spectrum.

To identify colors and textures, users may need to hold the Apple Pencil at a certain angle or require certain lighting. The resulting colors and textures recognized by the Apple Pencil will be sent to the associated device, such as a tablet or computer.
