This is because, with each update and evolution of mobile devices, application developers reinforce the importance of keeping their apps up to date. In practice, this ends up making it impossible to upgrade older hardware and software, causing tools to stop working.

In the case of devices manufactured by AppleWhatsApp stops working on phones with versions earlier than iOS 12. In other words, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and finally iPhone 6 Plus.
Previously, Meta announced that iOS 12.1 will also no longer support the messenger, meaning iPhone 5 and 5C owners will no longer be able to update the messenger tool. In the case of the latter two devices, they are more or less the same age as WhatsApp, i.e. they were launched in 2012.
