The new NS intercity may be able to run between the Randstad and the north by the end of the year. The Inspectorate for the human environment and transport yesterday approved the use of the train, nicknamed ‘the wasp’, on the Dutch railways.
Before summer of this year, the NS will test the new interurban on the road. This will take place on the route Amsterdam – Rotterdam – Breda. After that, if all goes according to plan, connections between Rotterdam and Groningen and Leeuwarden will follow. The train also stops in Assen.
