Score: Australia declared 475 for 4 in the first innings. South Africa 149 for 6 in the first innings.

Skipper and opener Dean Elgar (15), Sariel Ervey (18), Hentich Klaasan (two), Themba Bavuma (35), Khaya Sondo (39) and Kyle Virani (19) were out. Australian skipper Pat Cummins took three wickets and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets.
Opener Usman Khawaja (195 off 368 balls including one six and 19 fours) and Matt Nenshaw (five) declared the Australians’ innings at the crease. Steve Smith (104 off 192 balls) also scored a century. Marnus Labuschage (79) and Travis Head (70) scored half-centuries. Pat Cummins’ action of denying Khwaja a chance to score a double century was heavily criticized on social media.
