Nord-Pas-de-Calais will soon have 100 gendarmerie brigades. Traveling to Lumbres (Pas-de-Calais) this Friday, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced before the mayors of the two departments the creation of eight new gendarmerie brigades, four in each of them, to add to the 92 already existing.

This new deployment of gendarmes will take place within the framework of the Interior Ministry’s orientation and programming law, which provides for the creation of a total of 200 additional gendarmerie brigades on French territory, the minister said on Twitter.
In Nord-Pas-de-Calais, some 1,500 gendarmerie soldiers will be deployed by the summer. The areas in which they will be assigned have not yet been decided. The mayors will soon present proposals to Gérald Darmanin who will announce the chosen areas next April.
