The Bahrain national team, champions of the previous edition of the Gulf Cup, defeated its UAE counterpart 2-1 on Saturday, in the first matches of the two teams of the 25th Gulf Championship.
Camille Al-Aswad opened the scoring with a direct free kick in the 60th minute. Jassim Al-Sheikh added the second goal 13 minutes before the end, with a shot from the edge of the area into the left corner of the Emirati goalkeeper.
Sebastian Tigali reduced the difference to the Emirati “White” with a header in the second minute of stoppage time.
Also in the second group, Kuwait plays against Qatar, who participate in the Under 23 team.
Commenting on the outcome of the match, the coach of the Emirati national team, Rodolfo Arwabarina, announced that he took responsibility for the defeat against Bahrain.
He stressed that his side controlled the game during the first 25 minutes but then dropped back, before the level dropped much in the second half.
