NAIROBI, KOMPAS.com – Six journalists in South Sudan have been arrested for distributing a video showing the President Save Kirir seen pissing on his pants at a formal event.
This was stated on Saturday (7/1/2023) by the National Union of Journalists of South Sudan.
The video, shot in December 2022, shows a dark spot spreading across his gray trousers president of South Sudan while he was listening to the national anthem at an event.

The video was never shown on television but later circulated on social media.
“Journalists from the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Company were arrested on Tuesday (3/1/2023) and Wednesday (4/1/2023),” said Patrick Oyet, president of the Union of South Sudanese Journalists. Reuters.
He said the six reporters were suspected of knowing how the president’s bed-wetting video could spread and go viral on social media.
Reuters reported that South Sudan Information Minister Michael Makuei and South Sudan National Security Service spokesman David Kumuri did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Kiir has been president since South Sudan became independent in 2011. Government officials have repeatedly denied rumors circulating on social media that he is currently unwell.

“We are concerned that people currently detained have lived longer than required by law,” Oyet said.
By law, South Sudanese authorities can only detain suspects for 24 hours before bringing them before a judge.
Representative of the Committee to Protect Journalists for Sub-Saharan Africa, Muthoki Mumo, believes the detention of these journalists “fits” into a pattern of South Sudanese security personnel carrying out arbitrary detentions whenever officials deem unfavorable coverage.
