Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The famous Chinese entrepreneur who founded the Alibaba group, Jack Ma, was reportedly seen in Bangkok this week. This was reported after the businessman was said to have disappeared from the public.
Ma’s latest sighting appeared on Michelin-starred chef Jay Fai’s Instagram account on Friday (6/1/2022). He said mom’s visit brought pride to the restaurant.
“Some local media also reported that Ma was at a restaurant with Supakit Chearavanont, chairman of the board of Charoen Pokphand Group, Thailand’s largest agribusiness group,” Reuters wrote.
Media also reported that Ma attended a boxing match at Bangkok’s Rajadamnern Stadium, where he posed with clenched fists for a photo with Thai boxing champion Sombat “Buakaw” Banchamek.
The Jack Ma Foundation did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Charoen Pokphand also did not respond to this report.
But it will relinquish control of Chinese fintech giant Ant Group in a reshuffle trying to draw a line under a regulatory crackdown that was triggered soon after its botched $73 billion IPO two years ago.
Alibaba and Ant themselves have come under extensive regulatory crackdown on issues ranging from monopolistic behavior to consumer rights. This came shortly after Ma made a strong statement aimed at Chinese financial regulators.
