Woman helping disabled man with severe frostbite, a group of Good Samaritans come to the rescue

Erabaru.net. A man with special needs is hospitalized thanks to a group of good samaritans.

Sha’Kyra Aughry was at her home in Buffalo, New York on Christmas Day when she heard someone yelling in the street. When she looked out, she saw a man calling for help in the freezing cold.

He took the man, 64-year-old Joe White, to his home to warm up, but feared it was too late. His hands were frozen and his body seemed to get worse the longer he stayed at his house.

In a desperate cry for help, Aughry turned to Facebook Live.

“We have to get help,” he said on air. “She had gangrene on her hands. He will lose his fingers. I don’t know what else to do. i fed it. I gave him a bath.

“I went crazy because I was scared. I began to notice that her body had changed too much since I’d helped her—it was changing rapidly every hour.”

Aughry said she called 911 and the National Guard but, due to the snowstorm, emergency responders were unable to respond to calls for hours over the weekend. The ambulance got stuck in deep snow.

Eventually, his request was granted.

A group of men came and took Joe to the hospital on Christmas Eve.

“I was in the car with him and some good Samaritans who came to get us,” he said in another live Facebook.

Joe is now recovering in intensive care with fourth-degree frostbite, his sister Yvonne White told CNN.

Yvonne said her older brother is developmentally disabled and lives in a halfway house. Her employer, Ray Barker, said Joe left the shelter on Christmas Eve morning during a snowstorm. Barker thought he might work at the North Park Theater, even though he was out. Joe has worked in theater since 1980.

Yvonne and Barker both expressed their gratitude for Aughry.

“We’re all trying to help each other and it’s great,” Yvonne told CNN. “And now I feel like I have a sister and three grandchildren,” she added, referring to Aughry and her children.

“It is a disaster. And (Aaughtry) definitely saved his life,” Barker said.

The theater has started a fundraiser for Aughry and Joe, which together have raised over $50,000.(yn)
