New WhatsApp feature, you can still send messages even if the internet is blocked

KOMPAS. comWhatsapp now has an anti-blocking function. This new feature allows users to continue using WhatsApp through WhatsApp delegation even if your internet access is restricted by certain conditions, such as being blocked by the government.

“We leave the control in the hands of the people who keep access to WhatsApp if they are blocked or restricted,” WhatsApp said through its official page.

“Selecting a proxy allows you to connect to WhatsApp through servers set up by volunteers and organizations around the world, dedicated to helping people communicate freely,” WhatsApp continued.

Even though access will be through a different server if you use a proxy, WhatsApp ensures that the messages you send are protected by encryption from end to end.

In the beginning, WhatsApp itself actually said that this application was not designed to be used through a proxy either VPNs. This information was originally posted on the WhatsApp support page, then removed along with the release of proxy support.

Proxy support on WhatsApp itself is rolled out to all users across the globe, for both iOS and Android users. Naturally, the user must make sure that the application used is the latest version.

This feature released WhatsApp later Iran limited access to his app a few months ago. At the time, WhatsApp received a number of reports that users in Iran had been restricted from accessing the application.

The WhatsApp side then responded to the report and made various efforts so that users could continue to access WhatsApp.

WhatsApp hopes that there will be no more application blocking this year, especially if the practice violates human rights.

“Restrictions like the ones we’ve seen in Iran have denied human rights for months and prevented people from receiving emergency assistance. Even as those limits are extended, we hope these solutions will help people wherever they need secure and reliable communications.” claimed WhatsApp in the same post.

WhatsApp itself is blocked in a number of countries such as China, North Korea, Vietnam, Iran and many other countries.

Signal has already used a proxy

Not only WhatsApp, Signal’s instant messaging application also supports proxy function since 2021. Proxy support for Android version of Signal users was released in that year, then extended to iOS in September 2022.

The reason is the same as for WhatsApp, i.e. due to the Signal application blocking in Iran, as compiled KompasTekno from wired, Friday (6/1/2023).
