After an argument at a club in Düsseldorf’s Old Town, a 47-year-old man was seriously injured. On Friday he died of his injuries.
Update January 6th, 3:47pm: Sad certainty: Man who was brutally beaten in Düsseldorf’s Old Town on Thursday night has died As announced on Friday by the police and the public prosecutor, the 47-year-old died of his injuries on Friday morning in a Düsseldorf hospital. Police had previously arrested a 23-year-old suspect. He is now being charged with grievous bodily harm resulting in death. A magistrate today ordered the precautionary custody of the alleged aggressor.

Man (47) beaten in front of a club in the old town of Düsseldorf: danger to life
Düsseldorf – A man (47) was brutally beaten in the old city on Thursday night. A dispute between the 47-year-old and his alleged attacker (23) is said to have escalated beforehand. The 47-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries. His condition is still critical, Düsseldorf police and prosecutors said on Thursday.
“According to the state of the investigation to date, there was initially a verbal argument between the two men in a club on Mertensgasse for reasons that were not clear before,” the investigators said. The argument then apparently escalated outside and an attack ensued.
Dusseldorf: 47 years old after the attack in the historic center in mortal danger
As reported by police witnesses, the 23-year-old is said to have hit and kicked his victim. The 47-year-old fell to the ground and no longer reacted. He had to be revived by the police officers summoned. He was later taken to hospital with fatal injuries. The accident happened around 3:40 on Thursday morning.
The 23-year-old, known to the carabinieri, was arrested by witnesses and then provisionally arrested. He must be brought before a magistrate. A homicide commission leads the further investigation.
