Hang Seo Park making fun of Indonesia stronger due to naturalization. While, Vietnam he actually started using the downhill player as well.
Indonesia drew 0-0 with Vietnam in the semi-final first leg AFF Cup 2022 at Bung Karno Stadium at Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan on Friday (6/1/2023). Team Garuda was able to put down The Golden Stars in this fight.
Vietnam were only able to get one shot on target out of four attempts. Even the red and white team appeared more offensive.
Indonesia had eight shots including two on goal. However, poor finishing prevented Shin Tae-yong’s troops from scoring the winning goal.
This result meant that Indonesia still could not win against Vietnam, coached by Park Hang-seo. Indonesia drew twice and lost twice against Park Hang-seo and troops.
However, Park Hang-seo praised that Indonesia is now much stronger under Shin Tae-yong. However, the eulogy contained insinuations about Indonesia’s naturalization. He thinks Shin is also helped by having naturalized players.
At the AFF Cup 2022, Indonesia will use three naturalized players, namely Jordi Amat, Marc Klok and Ilija Spasojevic. Indonesia still has Sandy Walsh and Elkan Baggott who have British ancestry who did not get club permission to compete in this event.
Baggott hasn’t gone through a naturalization process like the players previously mentioned. The reason is that he chose to become a citizen of Indonesia (WNI) when he was not yet 19 years old.
“Indonesia is a strong team, but we are stronger. Since the arrival of coach Shin Tae-yong, Indonesia has naturalized many players. Obviously you have improved in the last two years but we both won. So Indonesia it is strong but Vietnam is stronger. I am satisfied with today’s result,” said Park quoted by Vietnamese media, Bongda.
Despite being sarcastic about Indonesia, Park actually uses a “European face” in the Vietnam national team. Vietnamese goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was born and has Russian ancestry. He played briefly for Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Moscow Junior before moving to Vietnam at the age of 18.
Vietnam also long ago naturalized the German-born player Adriano Schimdt who now plays for local club Topenland Binh Dinh. Schmidt made his Vietnam debut in a friendly against Afghanistan last June. However, he was not called up by Park for the 2022 AFF Cup.
