[인터뷰] ‘Gentleman’ Choi Seong-seong “A rookie monster? I want to act happier too.

Actor Choi Sung-eun (26), dubbed the ‘debutant monster of Chungmuro’ for his film ‘Startup’, visited the theater with his new film ‘Gentleman’. Seongeun Choi said, “I want to be happier and more satisfied with my acting.

He expressed a desire to work hard to fill it.

In a recent interview with the film ‘Gentleman’ (director Kim Kyung-won) held in a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Choi Seong-eun said, “I’m sorry to say, ‘It would have been nice if I had more time to get ready’.” I am grateful, but I try to see my own course of action objectively. I tend to look up a lot of related information, chew through it, and look back on it.

In response to the praise that he “wasn’t pushed between the strong characters at all and performed with passion,” he said, “It was good to push his beliefs without any hesitation between the two strong male characters. ‘Hwajin’ was definitely a greedy character.

“Gentleman” is a crime film in which Ji Hyeon-soo (Joo Ji-hoon), the head of a secret agency with a 100% success rate, pretends to be a prosecutor to find a missing client and chases the bad regardless of whether they are illegal or legal. Choi Sung-eun plays Kim Hwa-jin, a venomous prosecutor who doesn’t care about anyone in the comedy, and plays a daring role.

Seongeun Choi said, “Last year, I shot both my first leading role, ‘Annara Sumanara’ and the new ‘Gentleman’. I needed time to bear the heavy pressure and was scared, but I learned and gained a lot through various experiences. I looked up all the reviews and was greatly influenced by them. I’m waiting for the release of the work a little more calmly than the first time, ”she laughed.

It was his first role as a prosecutor. Seongeun Choi said, “First of all, understanding ‘Hwajin’ was the first step. When I read the script, I thought, ‘Why do I have to go this far?’ I thought. I didn’t know what a prosecutor’s job actually did, so I watched and studied documentary videos of prosecutors who were actually in the inspection department. After that, I understood why Hwajin went so far.

How satisfied are you with your job? He said, “I tend to look at my work more critically because all jobs have likes and dislikes.” I saw it as a bigger responsibility as a lead actor. After ‘Annara Sumanara’ ended, I think I started thinking about what I should have done if I was an actor who had to take responsibility for the whole thing. In the past, I didn’t have the perspective to see everything. I thought my perspective should be broader,” he said cautiously.

He added: “It’s a point I felt a lot when ‘Annara Sumanara’ opened, but ended up overlapping it slightly with ‘Gentleman’ in the second half. Personally, I have some regrets. I wondered what it would have been like if I had more time to think and prepare before entering. I trusted and followed the director Kim Kyung-won and Ju Ji-hoon, and thanks to this, I could play comfortably. It seems that the breath at that moment was vividly held,” he said humbly.

He was cautious and full of humility in his story, but showed an abiding respect for his colleagues who worked together. Seongeun Choi said, “I wanted to do it once because the elder Ju Ji-hoon was appearing and the appeal of the role and the genre was great.” There were so many things to learn.”

“Overall, Ju Ji-hoon knew exactly how this film was going and what kind of film was going to come out. There was a party involved in the production, so the perspective of watching the film itself was different. I thought you were looking at the big picture. I thought I wanted to look like that as a junior actor after I quit my job.

As for Park Seong-woong, “I haven’t seen a lot of him, but when it comes to senior Park Sung-woong, he has an attractive look when he’s playing a villain, so he looks strong, but he’s quite warm and very comfortable. . I think I was able to shoot comfortably because I had a vague belief that they would accept me no matter what I did.”

In the ‘monster rookie’ eulogy sent by Joo Ji-hoon and Park Sung-woong, “I appreciate the compliment, but I’m trying to think objectively. ‘Monster Rookie’ will be released next year or the next,” he said with a shy smile.

In response to the comment, ‘I think I’m being too hard on myself’, “I don’t want to be in the actor position.

I’m still learning, so there’s a lot of stuff I don’t know and I have anxiety.”

She said: “I’m scared of what to do and how to approach shooting the next job. I wish I wasn’t someone who acts haphazardly, but it’s hard to come up with a fun and satisfying point on my own. Whatever it is, it looks like it hasn’t been filled yet.”

“I think we need to create more moments that are more fun, satisfying, unexpectedly proud and interesting. I wish I had more experiences like that. I want to act in a way that makes me happy and satisfied.”
