After Apple, Dell will also try to reduce its dependence on China. The company aims to stop using chips developed in this country by 2024

Dell will try to reduce its reliance on China, just like Apple, but at a slightly faster pace, News.ro reports.

By 2024, Dell aims to stop using Chinese-made chips in new products, say unnamed sources within the company cited by Nikkei. In addition to the chips, the American company has told suppliers that it wants to use as few components as possible made in China.

Dell is trying, like Apple, to reduce its dependence on China and to diversify its production. Apple has suffered a lot in recent months due to the restrictions imposed by the Chinese authorities due to the increase in cases of COVID-19.

Furthermore, technology companies, especially American ones, are trying to avoid becoming collateral victims of the increasingly accentuated economic tensions between the United States and China.

Chips are a particularly sensitive topic. The United States has imposed a series of restrictions to limit China’s access to technologies that would allow it to develop high-performance chips.

Companies like Dell and Apple must use the best-performing chips in their flagship products, chips they will no longer find in China due to US restrictions.

Unlike Apple, which has made it clear that it is headed to India and Vietnam, it is not yet known where Dell will move part of its production to achieve the desired diversification.
