Director of Labuan Bajo Health Center Paul Vincen, AIDS Commission Secretary (KPA) Kab. West Manggarai Dr. Bernadus Barat Daya and KPA Administrators

Vice Regent Yulianus Weng in his speech expressed his appreciation for the good performance of the AIDS Protection Commission (KPA) in reducing the number of HIV patients and educating the people of West Manggarai about the dangers of AIDS .

“The Mabar Regional Government appreciates the good performance that was made by the KPA in 2022. We are optimistic that we can jointly achieve convergence in HIV AIDS management in this area,” said Mabar’s Deputy Chief who is also the managing director of West Manggarai KPA.

Vice Regent Yulianus Weng Realizes Tourism Advancement in an Area Will Have Positive and Negative Impacts on the Community

With the inauguration of community volunteers caring for HIV AIDS today, we are optimistic that we will be able to overcome the negative impacts of our tourism advancement together. We can suppress the HIV Aids disease in our area that we love.

“Good job, provide a comprehensive understanding of HIV AIDS to all people and ensure that this disease has no cure,” added Mabar’s deputy regent who is also a doctor.

He said HIV AIDS can be spread through sex with multiple partners (genital fluids and blood) without using a condom, then using injecting drugs, because drug addicts generally share needles with each other.

Receiving injections, blood transfusions, tissue transplants, and non-sterile or non-professional medical procedures

HIV can also be transmitted from pregnant women to the fetus they contain. The HIV virus can also be transmitted during childbirth or through breast milk while breastfeeding.

Please note that HIV is not spread through skin contact such as shaking hands or hugging sick people.

Furthermore, transmission does not occur through saliva, kissing, biting or sharing cutlery, unless the patient has canker sores, bleeding gums or open sores in the mouth.

Meanwhile, KPA Secretary DR. Bernadus Barat Daya expressed his gratitude to the West Manggarai Regional Government which throughout 2022 has been providing full support to West Manggarai KPA,

“The practical support of the regional government has made KPA mobile enough to do the HIV AIDS prevention tasks quite well, although we have to admit that there are so many shortcomings that we have, but we will definitely always try for 2023,” he said. stated Bernard

He explained that in 2023, there would be even more influence in developing strategies to tackle AIDS in 12 sub-districts and 22 health centers spread across West Manggarai district.

“In 2023, we will expand HIV AIDS education and commit to testing, providing free community HIV testing or testing, targeting 32 locations, namely 22 community health centers and 12 subdistricts,” he said.

It was stated that West Manggarai was projected to have 1,500 residents in 2003 and the focus of the scrutiny was primarily communities at risk both through the aspect of their work that allows for increased level of exposure to this virus than to ordinary civilians.

It is targeted that as many as 1500 people are at risk, for example drivers, migrants from areas where there are more out-of-town than return migrants and so on, and especially for PLHIV in places of residence in the sub-district where our PLHIV is present .

So we need to maximize scrutiny in the community around where the person with HIV lives, because friends who have been exposed to this are also estimated to have mobility in that area.

“That’s why we are prioritizing the area of the village to be examined during the test and of course with the help of friends and the health service, especially from the Labuan Bajo Health Center’s VCT mobile team,” he explained

He said he could maximize the activities of this free HIV test exam. Because a deadly and contagious virus can be jointly conducted to fight or overcome and minimize the impact of the virus spread.

This free exam shall be a joint effort from the Government, KPA and all stakeholders, constituents of society

KPA hopes that we will all join forces to help each other in our own ways to minimize the risks or impacts of HIV use.

Learning from HIV cases in West Manggarai increasingly being identified, then with the spread of people exposed to PLWH, housewives, children of PSK employees and others

We call for the effort to eliminate new HIV infections in the next 2030 to happen in West Manggarai, we hope that stigmatization and discrimination or wrong and inappropriate paradigm treatment from us who are healthy to those exposed .

“They deserve to be treated like other living beings,” Bernadus said. (Mckabmanggaraibabar/Syarif ab – IKP Kominfo Mabar Team/toeb)
